WRTA has been providing bus service in Mahoning County since 1971.
WRTA has a strong tradition of working to meet the travel needs
of its riders. We encourage you to use our website to find the
information you need to use WRTA.
On November 4, WRTA will be asking the voters
of Mahoning County to pass a ¼% sales tax which will create
a countywide public transportation system. This expanded transportation
system will create a bus service that will take people in all
communities across the county to work, medical appointments and
other crucial trips. With the growing numbers of seniors, people
with disabilities and large numbers of workers who need public
transportation due to rising gas prices this service has become
critical for thousands of residents across the county.
By passing this ¼% sales tax, residents
of Mahoning County will be guaranteed to receive the following
services:
- Regularly scheduled community circulators
and cross-town busses in suburban and urban locations for workers
and people who have no other means of transportation
- County-wide small bus, door-to-door bus
service to meet the growing travel needs of senior citizens
and persons with disabilities
- Saturday, weekday and evening service
to assist the people who have lost their jobs and those who
can no longer get to medical appointments due to severe service
cuts
- Mobility Management services and resources
to help all social service agencies do a better job of meeting
the travel needs of their clients
Having a good transportation system is important to keeping jobs
in Mahoning County and improving its economy. Many local businesses
need reliable transportation to get workers to their jobs; and
new companies looking at Mahoning County look at a region’s
public transportation system before deciding to locate into a
community. By investing into a strong public transportation system,
Mahoning County will be able to provide reliable employees for
local businesses and in turn become more attractive to potential
new businesses. In addition, the investment will bring back millions
of dollars in matching federal funds back to Mahoning County.
With the rise of gasoline prices, the need
of public transportation will only increase.
